Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities Carla Qualtrough has been named as one of five inductees into the Canadian Paralympic Hall of Fame for the 2017 intake.

The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) has announced Qualtrough will be inducted into the builder category along with International Wheelchair Basketball Federation secretary general Maureen Orchard and Archie Allison.

Eight-time Paralympic Alpine skiing medallist Karolina Wisniewska was named in the athlete category, while Canada's Sochi 2014 Chef de Mission Ozzie Sawicki was selected in the coaches category.

The five Canadians will be officially inducted at a Gala at the Infinity Convention Centre in Ottawa on April 7.

"The outstanding achievements and the pioneering successes of all our inductees is a wonderful cause for celebration and recognition," said CPC chief executive Karen O'Neill.

"Congratulations and thank you to each one of them for their trailblazing careers and dedication to excellence in Paralympic sport."

Qualtrough, who won three Paralympic swimming medals, was appointed Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities in 2015.

She worked as a volunteer at the Pan American and Parapan American Games in Toronto in 2015 and has served on the Governing Board of the Americas Paralympic Committee.

Sawicki, whose career in sport spans over 25 years, was the head coach and programme director of the Canadian Para Alpine ski team from 2000 to 2004.

He then became head coach of Athletics Canada's Paralympic programme from 2009 to 2011 and was performance advisor to the equestrian team at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Wisniewska, a three-time Paralympian, won two silver medals at Nagano 1998 before she claimed two silvers and two bronze in Salt Lake City four years later.

The 40-year-old, who was born in Warsaw in Poland, then clinched two bronze medals at the 2010 Games in Vancouver.
