Russia’s Nikita Liamin and Viacheslav Krasilnikov clinched their first-ever International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach World Tour gold medal as they topped the podium at the event on Iran's Kish Island with victory over Poland’s Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak.

The Russian pair fell behind after dropping the opening set before they recovered to seal a 18-21, 21-19, 15-8 triumph.

The result ensured Liamin and Krasilnikov marked just their second event together in style and came after they finished ninth at the recent World Tour tournament in Fort Lauderdale in the United States.

Krasilnikov previously won one gold, three silver and two bronze medals with partner Konstantin Semenov, while Liamin also has a bronze to his name with ex-partner Dmitri Barsuk.

Russia also claimed the bronze medal in Kish Island as Oleg Stoyanovskiy and Artem Yarzutkin, who were second last year, beat Germany’s Lorenz Schumann and Julius Thole.

They had to come from behind to claim the third and final spot on the podium as they lost the first set but came back to win 13-21, 21-17, 15-7.

Liamin and Krasilnikov enjoyed relatively comfortable progress to the final as they overcame Schumann and Thole in straight sets.

The Russian duo were in dominant form as they wrapped up a convincing 21-19, 21-15 win to guarantee their first-ever FIVB World Tour medal.

In the other semi-final, Kantor and Losiak made light work of Stoyanovskiy and Yarzutkin with a 21-13, 21-17 victory.

The four-day three-star competition was for male players only.

A law restricting female access was introduced at volleyball matches in Iran in 2012 as an extension of a similar ban in football, but when contacted by insidethegames, the FIVB confirmed all members of the public will be able to attend this year’s event.
