Top seed Stephane Houdet of France beat South Africa’s Evans Maripa in straight sets today to earn a spot in the semi-finals of the singles competition at the ABN AMRO World Wheelchair Tennis Tournament in Dutch city Rotterdam.

The London 2012 Paralympic silver medallist triumphed 6-0, 6-2 to set up a penultimate-round encounter with fourth-seeded compatriot Nicolas Peifer, a 6-1, 6-4 victor at the expense of The Netherlands’ Maikel Scheffers.

Also through to the semi-finals is number two seed Gordon Reid, who defeated Alfie Hewett 6-0, 6-4 in an all-British clash.

Next up for the Rio 2016 Paralympic gold medallist is third seed Gustavo Fernandez after the Argentinean overcame Spain's Martin De La Puente 6-3, 6-0.

The doubles semi-finals were also played today with Houdet and Peifer beating Scheffers and Japan's Takuya Miki 6-1, 6-0, and Fernandez and Hewett defeating Reid and The Netherlands' Tom Egberink 6-7, 6-3, 10-5.

The action came on a day when the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced that The Netherlands will stage two of wheelchair tennis's major events in 2017 and 2018.

The UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters will be held in Bemmel in 2017 and 2018, while the 2018 BNP Paribas World Team Cup will take place in Apeldoorn.

Both competitions will be hosted by the Dutch Tennis Federation (KNLTB) in the province of Gelderland.

"As one of the leading nations in wheelchair tennis, the KNLTB feels a responsibility to host the largest wheelchair tennis events in The Netherlands," KNLTB chief executive Erik Poel said.

"This way we hope to continue to increase the popularity of wheelchair tennis for people with and without a disability.

"Furthermore, our own national heroes can show what they are capable of in front of their home fans."

Bemmel will become the third location in The Netherlands to host the UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters, with the first three events held in Amersfoort from 2000 to 2002, and the 2011 and 2012 editions staged in Amsterdam.

The 2017 event will be held in November with the dates still to be confirmed.

Apeldoorn will become the fourth location in The Netherlands to host the BNP Paribas World Team Cup, which was previously held in Roermond in 1995, Groningen in 2005 and Alphen in 2014.

"We are delighted that the UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters and BNP Paribas World Team Cup will both return to The Netherlands, which has such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable wheelchair tennis following and a rich tradition of hosting the sport’s leading championships," ITF President David Haggerty said.

"It is also home to some of the most celebrated players in the history of the sport."
