SPORTELAmerica's first panel session at next month's convention in Miami will explore ways in which sports agencies can exploit the "power vacuum" in Latin America left by the corruption investigation into FIFA.

The expert panel, entitled "Power Vaccum: opportunities for agencies in Latin America", will explore how companies can benefit from the United States Department of Justice probe into widespread wrongdoing within football.

More than 40 FIFA officials and entities have been indicted on charges largely relating to bribes and kickbacks from marketing and broadcasting deals in the region.

The session, due to be held on the opening day of SPORTELAmerica on March 14, will look at how the investigation "shattered the existing ecosystem" and how it now offers a way into a previously untouchable market.

Speakers for the event are yet to be confirmed.

The second session at the convention, scheduled to run until March 16, is called "OTT Sports and the Americas" and will explore how "over-the-top" content is being used and the current state of OTT.

This involves transmitting media via the internet without an operator of multiple cable or direct-broadcast satellite television systems.

Virtual Reality and augmented reality, which are both gaining in popularity in the broadcast world, is the subject of the second SPORTEL Tech Panel on March 15.

La Liga, Spain's top flight football division which often attends SPORTEL events, will then give a presentation entitled "Digital Strategy, a Key Factor to increase the Value of Audiovisual Rights", with President Javier Tebas set to be the main speaker.

The event will gather top level executives from a wide range of firms, including broadcasters, television networks, international sports federations, marketing agencies, production companies, rights owners and satellite providers.

SPORTEL sales and marketing agent David Jones said in October, following the conclusion of SPORTELMonaco, that he expects the themes of e-sports and virtual reality to dominate the convention at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel.
