Poland's Jan Ziobro topped qualification at the men's International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup here in South Korea today.

Pyeongchang is making its debut as a World Cup host, with the competition also serving as a Winter Olympic test event before next year's Games.

The ski jumpers were able to test the smaller of the two hills during three training rounds earlier in the day, before using the large hill for qualification.

Ziobro produced the most impressive display, with the Polish jumper achieving a distance of 134.5 metres, giving him a score of 131.1.

Slovenia’s Anze Lanisek and Poland’s Dawid Kubacki completed the top three positions, after scoring 125.4 and 124.4 respectively.

There was disappointment for the home fans, with none of the three South Korean athletes able to finish in the top 40 places to advance to tomorrow’s final.

Choi Heung-Chul went closest, as he ended in 41st place during the evening’s qualification.

Several of the likely protagonists in tomorrow’s competition were able to test the facility without the pressure of qualification.

World Cup leader Kamil Stoch was among those to be pre-qualified, with the Polish star achieving a jump of 132m.

Slovenia’s Peter Prevc, the dominant force on last year’s World Cup circuit, would achieve a further distance of 134m.

His effort was matched by Poland's Maciej Kot.

The men’s and women’s finals are due to be held tomorrow.

The World Cup will conclude with the second competitions the following day (February 16).
