Andreas Prommegger won an all-Austrian final to claim a first International Ski Federation (FIS) Parallel Snowboard World Cup victory of the season at the Bokwang Phoenix Park.

Prommegger was the lowest of the 16 qualifiers yesterday, but a change of equipment proved the catalyst for a strong run through the field in the test event for the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.

He began with a victory over top qualifier Radoslav Yankov of Bulgaria, before seeing off the challenge of Russia’s Dmitry Sarsembaev in the quarter-finals.

The Austrian would then beat Switzerland’s Dario Caviezel by margins of 0.75 and 0.11 seconds in the two semi-final runs to progress to the big final.

His compatriot Sebastian Kislinger came through the other side of the competition, defeating Italy’s Aaron March in the last four.

Kislinger would be unable to repeat the feat against Prommegger, who won both runs in the final to take victory.

"I didn't know what was going on in the qualifiers," said Prommegger.

"I had two good runs but wasn't fast.

"So, I changed the equipment and it worked out perfectly."

Russia’s Alena Zavarzina claimed her second victory of the season by coming out on top in the women’s event.

She defeated the Sochi 2014 Olympic champion Patrizia Kummer in the final, beating the Swiss by 0.14 and 0.22 across the two runs.
