A total of 42 players have been registered for the World Bowls Youth Championships, which are set to take place in Gold Coast in Australia next month.

Competition is scheduled to take place at the Broadbeach Bowls Club, which is due to host action during next year’s Commonwealth Games.

Athletes aged between 18 and 25 will compete in the event, which is due to get underway on March 27 and will last for seven days.

Australia’s Aaron Teys and Ellen Ryan are expected to be the pair to beat in the mixed doubles competition, with the duo having triumphed in the discipline last year.

Ryan would also go on to claim victory in the women’s singles and will hope to repeat her success this year.

Aaron Wilson, also of Australia, won the men’s title in 2016 and would go on to claim the senior world title in the mixed doubles with Brett Wilkie later that year.

New Zealand will hope Tayla Bruce can challenge for medals in the event, while Canada’s rising star Pricilla Westlake is also tipped to feature in the later stages.

Seventeen countries and territories are expected to be represented.
