There was double Swedish joy on home snow today as competitors from the country topped International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Cross World Cup qualification time-sheets.

Victor Oehling Norberg was the best male skier in Idre Fjall as he made it through to the weekend’s finals.

In the women’s event, Sandra Naesland finished first in the qualifying.

Norberg, who picked up a win when the World Cup came to the same resort last year, held off the challenge of Switzerland’s Alex Fiva in today’s final.

He got round the course in a time of 1min 10.99sec, putting him 0.28 in front of Fiva.

Naesland added to the home success as she beat reigning Winter Olympic champion Marielle Thompson in the final by 0.21, clocking a time of 1:16.40.

Sami Kennedy-Sim of Australia took third place and Germany’s Heidi Zacher came fourth.

Another round of qualification is set to take place tomorrow before two competitions are held on Saturday (February 11) and Sunday (February 12).
