Dutch Para alpine skier Jeroen Kampschreur has won January’s International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Allianz Athlete of the Month.

The 17-year-old received 34 per cent of the public vote, putting him ahead of Nordic skier Oleksandra Kononova of the Ukraine, who was second with 25 per cent.

Third place went to Argentinian wheelchair tennis star Gustavo Fernandez, who won the Australian Open title, with 19 per cent while British archer Jessica Stretton was fourth with 14.

Para alpine skier Andrea Rothfuss, from Germany, completed the top five with nine per cent.

Kampschreur’s success came after he picked up three gold medals at the 2017 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships held in Tarvisio, Italy, last month.

He topped the podiums in the sitting titles in super-combined, slalom and giant slalom events.

It was also the first time Kampschreur had taken part in the World Championships.

Before his global wins, the teenager had been involved in other IPC competitions, including being part of the European Para Snow Sport Youth Circuit in 2013 and 2014.

He is also an ambassador for the Johan Cruyff Foundation, which promotes sporting activities for children.
