As "official timekeeper", the Swiss company will be responsible for delivering "precise timing, scoring and results for all competitions".

Longines are a long-term supporter of the Commonwealth Games who also delivered timing services for Perth 1962 as well as acting as a sponsor of the most recent edition in Glasgow.

"With 6,600 athletes demonstrating greatness rarely seen on the field, track or in the pool, Longines will be delivering precise timing, scoring and result services to feed the global broadcast and provide official results for every heat, match and final across every event at Gold Coast 2018," said Peter Beattie, chair of the Gold Coast 2018 Organising Committee.

"Signing our first international Tier One Partner with over one year to go, illustrates the reputation Gold Coast 2018 is developing as a strong brand with international appeal."

The announcement follows other sponsorship deals with Australian companies.

Clothing company Hard Yakka was named as the official uniform provider last week.

Longines branding will also be showcased on uniforms worn during Queen’s Baton Relay set to be launched at Buckingham Palace in London later this year.

"As we get closer to Gold Coast 2018 our focus is on delivering an unforgettable global Games and our work with Longines is crucial to shaping the experience for spectators, broadcasters, working media and a cumulative television audience of up to 1.5 billion people," added the Organising Committee's chief executive Mark Peters.

"Over 200 Longines technicians will be working across all 18 competition venues at Games time, delivering timing, scoring and results equipment and services."

Action at Gold Coast 2018 is due to take place from April 4 to 15 in 2018.
