Ten, the men’s singles bronze medallist at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games, came into today’s free skating having topped yesterday’s short programme standings and was the strongest performer once more to seal victory.

Competing last out of the 24 competitors, the 23-year-old needed at least 157.19 points to better the leading total of Japan’s Keiji Tanaka and achieved that comfortably with a score of 172.06.

His winning total of 266.97 points was 14.88 more than Tanaka, who finished 5.53 clear of bronze medallist Alexander Majorov of Sweden.  

Russia's Artur Dmitriev was third after the short programme, but ended up finishing fourth with 237.82.

Earlier on the final day of figure skating action, Ukraine’s Alexandra Nazarova and Maxim Nikitin won the mixed pairs competition after holding onto their lead they established in the short dance on Thursday (February 2).

The duo posted the highest score in today’s free dance, 101.50, which when added to the 64.12 they already had, gave them an overall total of 165.62.

Russia’s Sofia Evdokimova and Egor Bazin came second in the short dance and remained there after the free dance with a total of 156.96.

Rounding out the podium were Germany’s Shari Koch and Christian Nuechtern, who replicated their third-place short dance finish in the free dance for a total of 154.00.

"We thought we could win medals in the ice dance competition, but were not confident to win a gold medal," Vadim Stetsenko, the head of the Ukrainian delegation, admitted.

"Maksim and Alexandra impressed with their skating performance.

"I’d like to thank Kazakh people for their warm hospitality and cheering on the Ukrainian pair."
