Ninety-five volunteers from aid organisation Compassion International have received diplomas in El Salvador after taking a sports administration course.

The course ran between August and December of last year and was organised by the Salvadorian Olympic Academy, the educational arm of the National Olympic Committee of El Salvador (ESNOC).

Participants were taught about the methodology of teaching several sports, with the course also containing elements of psychology, nutrition and physiology.

The course was run every Friday.

A ceremony to present the diplomas was held in front of Guillermo Muñoz, director of Compassion International.

ESNOC President Eduardo Palomo was also in attendance, alongside the country's shooting Olympian Lilian Castro.

Thirty-year-old Castro competed at the August Olympics in Brazilian city Rio de Janeiro and finished 44th in the qualification round of the women's 10 metres air pistol.

Castro also served as the Central American nation's flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony.

El Salvador are still waiting for their first Olympic medal of any colour.

Joining Castro at Rio 2016 were seven other athletes - race walkers Luis Lopez and Yesenia Miranda, judoka Juan Diego Turcios, laser sailor Enrique Arathoon, swimmers Marcelo Acosta and Rebeca Quinteros and weightlifter Julio Salamanca.
