Daniel Leibundgut has been appointed as the World Orienteering Championships SEA and project manager.

The Swiss national was unveiled by the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) and the role will see him taking on responsibility of project managing the event advising team.

Leibundgut has worked at previous IOF events, being responsible for timekeeping and event administration at the World Championships in 2003 and 2012, held in Rapperswil and Lausanne respectively.

He also helped organise the competitions at the World Games hosted by Kaohsiung in 2009 and Cali in 2013.

A transition period will happen as Jørn Sundby, the man Leibundgut is replacing, will continue the role for this year’s Championships in Estonia before his successor takes charge from next year’s event in Latvia.

"My vision is to leverage IOF and their major event organisers towards high quality and professionally organised events," Leibundgut said.

"The new World Orienteering Championships event advising structure enables the organisation of major events to match the expectations of our athletes.

"To set up the structures and tools for leading the event advising teams at major IOF events is both challenging and fascinating."

This year’s Championships are due to take place between June 30 and July 7.
