Emomali Rahmon has been re-elected as President of the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan.

He was confirmed in the top job at the governing body's electoral General Assembly, which was held in capital city Dushanbe.

Alongside Rahmon, two vice presidents will serve - Ahtam Abdullozoda and Shamsullo Sohibov.

Muhamadsho Abdulloev was appointed as secretary general, while there will be eight Executive Board members.

These will represent the sports of athletics, boxing, canoeing, football, judo and taekwondo, as well as the National Olympians Association and the National Winter Sports Association.

Olympic sport in Tajikistan is currently on a high after the country won its first gold medal at the Rio 2016 Games in August.

It came courtesy of hammer thrower Dilshod Nazarov, who won the men's event with an effort of 78.68 metres.

Tajikistan had previously won three other Olympic medal since its debut at Atlanta 1996.

Wrestler Yusup Abdusalomov claimed 84 kilograms freestyle silver at Beijing 2008, with judoka Rasul Boqiev winning bronze in the men's 73kg class at the same Games.

At London 2012, boxer Mavzuna Chorieva won women's lightweight bronze.
