Düsseldorf is poised to make its debut on the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Indoor Tour circuit when the German city hosts competition tomorrow.

The inaugural season of the World Indoor Tour was composed of four well-established IAAF Indoor Permit meetings, but Düsseldorf was added to the series last March.

Competition is due to take place at the Arena-Sportpark, with the event set to be the 12th edition of the athletics meeting.

Women’s pole vault competition will take place for the first time at the meeting with the Rio 2016 Olympic silver medallist Sandi Morris among those set to compete.

The American, who also ended as the World Indoor Championship runner-up last year, will face the challenge of 18-year-old Wilma Murto.

Murto is the current under-20 world record holder, and will hope to continue her progress as the Finnish athlete is currently ranked second in the world this season after achieving a clearance of 4.65 metres.

Two-time world indoor champion Pavel Maslak will be among the names on the start-line in the men’s 400m event.

The Czech was victorious at the meeting last year, but will face the threat of Grenada’s Bralon Taplin, with the 24-year-old hoping to build on his fourth place at the 2016 World Indoor Championships and an appearance in the Rio 2016 Olympic final.

With the European Indoor Championships drawing ever nearer, several athletes will be in pursuit of qualifying times in Düsseldorf.

The women’s 800m could see several athletes secure places at the Championships, which are due to take place in Serbia’s capital Belgrade from March 3 to 5.

Belarus’ Maryna Arzamasova, the reigning world champion, will look to improve on her fifth place finish at the opening Tour event in Boston.

She will take on European indoor champion Selina Buchel of Switzerland, as well as Poland’s Joanna Jozwik, who reached the Rio 2016 Olympic final.

France’s Renelle Lamote, who earned a silver medal outdoors at the European Championships in Amsterdam last year, will also be among the field.
