France successfully defended their International Handball Federation (IHF) Men's World Championships title in front of a home crowd at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris.

The host nation’s quest for a sixth title would conclude with a meeting against Norway, who had secured an extra time victory over Croatia in the last four to reach their maiden final.

Played in front of a crowd of 15,609 spectators, including French President Francois Hollande and International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, the home team found themselves trailing in the early stages to the tie.

The match, though, remained in the balance at half-time as the French would eventually edge into a narrow 18-17 advantage over their rivals.

Led by Nikola Karabatic, the French team grew into the final and became the pull away in the second half.

They would eventually secure a 33-26 victory in the contest, repeating their success from two-years ago in Qatar.

Karabatic would end as the top scorer in the final after finding the net on six occasions.

His team-mates Kentin Mahe, Michael Guigou and Valentin Porte all ended with five goals to their names.

Following the conclusion of the Championships, Karabatic was named as the tournament’s best player.

He would be joined in the all-star team by his compatriot Nedim Remili and the host nation’s goalkeeper Vincent Gerard.

Croatia’s Domagoj and Sweden’s Jerry Tollbring were also named in the team, along with Norway’s Sander Sagossen, Kristian Bjornsen and Bjarte Myrhol.
