Denmark's Hans-Kristian Vittinghus defeated a third Indian player in three days to continue his progress at the Badminton World Federation's (BWF) Syed Modi International Grand Prix.

After disappointing two home players yesterday, the European defeated Abhishek Yelegar in round three today at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow.

He came through 21-18, 21-5 to book his place in the quarter-finals of the Grand Prix Gold event.

Vittinghus, the number two seed, is the favourite to win the tournament after Thailand's number one ranked Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk withdrew.

He will now play another Indian, Sourabh Varma, after the eighth seed knocked out his team-mate Lakshya Sen 21-14, 21-16.

Home hopes largely rest with number three seed Srikanth Kidambi, a 21-15, 21-16 winner over fellow Indian Ansal Yadav.

That booked him a last eight match with Malaysia's former double world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli, a 21-15, 21-15 victor against Misha Zilberman of Israel today.

In the women's draw, India's Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu remains on course for a home title in front of an expectant home crowd.

She saw off team-mate Lalita Dahiya 21-7, 21-12, to reach the quarter-finals.

Spain's third seed Beatriz Corrales joined her in going through by ousting Vehrenica Debora Rumete of Indonesia 21-13, 21-13.

Indonesian fourth seed Fitriani got the better of India's Ira Sharma, 21-11, 21-7, to also progress.

Competition continues in Lucknow tomorrow.
