The women’s competition will be taking place in Sapporo, which hosted the 1972 Winter Olympics and with a population of over two million is the biggest city on the World Cup calendar, with training and qualification beginning tomorrow.

After this, competitions will be held on Saturday (January 14) and Sunday (January 15).

Heading into the event, Takanashi holds a 208 point advantage in the World Cup leaderboard over compatriot Yuki Ito, who has a score of 352, after topping the podium five times out of six so far this season.

She also won both competitions hosted at Sapporo, which will host the Asian Winter Games next month, last year.

Austria’s Daniela Iraschko-Stolz is currently third in the table on 317.

In the build-up to the event, Sapporo has had the largest amount of snowfall in almost 30 years, meaning the hills there are well covered.

The women will remain in Japan after the leg in Sapporo with the next stage taking place in Zao from January 19 to 21.

In the men's World Cup, the competitors will be in Poland as the circuit comes to Wisla.

Returning to action will be Austria's Gregor Schlierenzauer after a year out.

Following the competition in Innsbruck on January 3, 2016, Schlierenzauer took the rest of the season off due to a "lack of motivation" before an ACL tear in the Spring sidelined him.

Despite under-performing during the Four Hills, Slovenia's Domen Prevc remains ahead in the overall leaderboard on 646, just nine ahead of Norwegian jumper Daniel Andre Tande.

Poland's Kamil Stoch, who won the Four Hills title, is currently third with a total of 633.

Qualification in the men's World Cup event will be held tomorrow before two competitions are held on Saturday and Sunday.
