Mannequin Challenges are a viral internet video trend in which people are frozen in action like mannequins while a moving camera films them.

The Pacific island nation is seeking to build on historic success in 2016 which saw them claim a first ever Olympic medal of any colour when they won men's rugby sevens gold in Rio de Janeiro.

The rugby squad were duly named "Best Male Team of Rio 2016" at November's Association of National Olympic Committees Gala Awards dinner in Doha.

Fiji claimed two weightlifting gold medals at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games held in Apia, Samoa, as well as a rugby bronze, and are hoping to improve upon this haul at the Games scheduled for July 19 to 23 in The Bahamas.

As it stands, they are hoping to participate across the seven sports of athletics, beach volleyball, boxing, judo, rugby sevens, swimming and tennis.

"At the moment the Team Fiji position of Chef de Mission to the 2017 CYG is still open and as advertised, closes on January 15, 2017," said FASANOC chief executive Lorraine Mar.

Mar claimed that the CYG is a good pathway for team officials hoping to be involved in future editions of the Commonwealth and Olympic Games - just as it is for athletes competing there.
