Gangwon FC will play their home matches at the ski jumping venue due to be used at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang following their promotion to the top-flight of South Korean domestic football, it has been announced.

The club had played four encounters at the Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre last season and officials have confirmed it will be the venue for their games in the K-League Classic.

The stadium, which is located at the Alpensia resort, one of the main hubs for the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics, has seating for 11,000 supporters.

It sits at the bottom of the ski jumping hill, with the ramps making for an iconic backdrop.

In a statement sent to Reuters, Gangwon FC claim the venue is "ideal for holding sports tournaments".

"The ski jumping venue is located 700 metres above sea level, and the average temperature in summer is about 21.9 degrees Celsius," the statement read.

Gangwon FC have also vowed to help supporters with transport up to the Ski Jumping Centre as the venue is situated in a fairly remote location in the region.

"If you look at Pyeongchang within Gangwon province overall, it is in a location where it connects with other cities, so it won't be more difficult for fans to get to the stadium," Gangwon FC public relations officer Lee Hyun-yong told Reuters.

"We are also planning to run shuttle buses to various cities in Gangwon Province such as Chuncheon and Gangneung so that it is more accessible for fans."

The Ski Jumping Centre, which will also play host to part of the Nordic combined competitions at Pyeongchang 2018, is one of three venues at the Alpensia Sports Park, along with the Biathlon Centre and the Cross-Country Skiing Centre.

The Ski Jumping Centre staged the first of 24 test events in the lead-up to the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics, which are scheduled to take place from February 9 to 25, last month.
