The first meeting of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletes’ Commission since the latest round of elections at Rio 2016 has taken place.

Held in Bonn in Germany, over three days, the group welcomed a trio of new members – Britain’s most decorated female Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey, Canadian swimmer Chelsey Gotell and United States cyclist Monica Bascio.

It was the last meeting to be chaired by former Canadian Para ice hockey player Todd Nicholson and topics discussed included a debrief from Rio 2016.

The Commission also talked about how links to International Federations can be improved on through Athlete Focus groups.

On top of this, they examined what discussion points will be brought up at the next Athlete Forum, due to take place in Duisburg, Germany, between June 8 and 11.

"It was a very productive three days of meetings and I believe the new members will be a great assest to the Athletes’ Council," Nicholson said.

"Even though I have to stand down as chairperson, I will still be following their work and I am sure they will produce some great results in the future and represent all Para athletes very well."

A new chairperson is due to be elected at the next meeting of the Commission, scheduled to take place in March.
