Ukrainian-born American Oksana Masters secured her third victory of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Para Nordic Skiing World Cup season as the campaign continued in Vuokatti in Finland today.

Masters, who represented the United States in Para-cycling at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, topped the podium in the women’s sitting race as long distance classic cross-country skiing events came to the fore.

The three-time Paralympic medallist completed the course in a time of 41min 23.8sec to finish in front of Belarusian duo Lidziya Hrafeyeva and Liudmyla Vauchok.

There was yet more success for Ukrainian athletes at the event as World Championships silver medallist Maksym Yarovyi won the men’s sitting in 44:32.3.

South Korea’s Eui Hyun Sin achieved his best-ever World Cup result as he took second place, while the bronze medal went the way of Daniel Cnossen of the US.

World champion Oleksandra Kononova reigned supreme once again in the women’s standing competition, clocking 51:09.0 to lead home a Ukrainian clean sweep.

Iuliia Batenkova and Liudmyla Liashenko claimed silver and bronze respectively.

In the men’s standing, World Championships bronze medallist Ihor Reptyukh wrapped up a hat-trick of victories for the Ukraine as he led from start to finish on his way to recording a time of 51:21.6.

Home skier Ilkka Tuomisto ended in second, while Canada’s Mark Arendz was third.

The fourth win for the Ukraine team came in the women’s visually impaired event as Liudmyla Liashenko, guided by Vitalii Kazakov, proved too strong for the rest of the field.

Liashenko finished in a time of 55:44.6, edging Austria’s Carina Edlinger and guide Julian Josef Edlinger.

Olga Prylutska, also of the Ukraine, did enough for third place along with her guide Borys Babar.

Zebastian Modin of Sweden, who sealed bronze at Sochi 2014, continued his strong run of form as he took the men’s visually impaired honours.

Guided by Johannes Andersson, Modin went around the course in 52:48.6, over a second quicker than silver medallist Thomas Clarion and guide Antoine Bollet.

Dmytro Suiarko and guide Vitalii Kazakov added to the Ukrainian medal haul with bronze.

The event in Vuokatti concludes tomorrow with short distance cross-country freestyle action.
