Los Angeles 2024 leaders have completed their community forums with residents in all 15 city council districts following a meeting at the San Fernando Valley's Pacoima City Hall.

The meeting, with residents of LA Council District 7, marked the culmination of more than a year’s worth of community gatherings that have featured Olympians, Paralympians and bid leaders.

It fulfils LA 2024's commitment to participate in meetings in each council district as part of its Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Los Angeles, signed in January.

Led by community manager Joslyn Treece, the citywide community meeting programme is said to have provided LA 2024 with valuable feedback as it bids to create a low-risk, high-tech and sustainable Olympic and Paralympic Games that serves people of Southern California and the global Olympic Movement.

Additionally, LA 2024 bid leaders pointed to the meetings as both a testament to the Bid Committee’s close working relationship with the City of Los Angeles and as further proof of Angelenos’ desire to host the Games in LA in 2024.

LA 2024 has participated in meetings in Atwater Village, Chatsworth, Downtown LA, Encino, Hollywood, Lake Balboa, Lincoln Heights, Mar Vista, Mid City, Pacoima, Reseda, San Pedro, Santa Monica, Sherman Oaks, South LA, Studio City, Universal City, Van Nuys, West Hollywood, Westchester and Westwood.

"On behalf of LA 2024, we are humbled and inspired by the support Angelenos have shown for our low-risk, high-tech and sustainable new Games for a new era," said LA 2024 community manager Joslyn Treece.

"Every single community meeting we have participated in this past year has resulted in enlightening and productive conversations with residents who care deeply about the neighbourhoods they call home.

"We look forward to continuing these meetings in the new year and to using the input received to refine our offering to the IOC (International Olympic Committee) and the Olympic Movement."

In March, LA 2024 chairman Casey Wasserman said community support is vital in the race to host the Games.

A poll carried out in February by the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University found that 88 per cent of Angelenos back the city's campaign, compared with 12 per cent opposed.

Including those respondents who did not answer in the survey, 85 per cent supported LA hosting the Games, 11 per cent opposed and four per cent did not answer.

"LA is a city that lives and breathes sport, and our conversations with Angelenos over the past year have reinforced the notion that the Olympic and Paralympic Games are truly a part of our city’s DNA," said Wasserman.

"Excitement for bringing the Games back to the US for the first time in 28 years is overflowing in Los Angeles - 88 per cent of Angelenos support hosting the Games in 2024, according to a poll conducted independently by Loyola Marymount University.

"Angelenos’ enthusiasm has inspired our work to bring the Games back to a community that loves the Olympic Movement and deliver a transformative Games in 2024."

Having attended many of the community meetings, LA 2024 vice-chair and director of athlete relations Janet Evans says she has "no doubt that Angelenos would relish the chance to welcome the world’s greatest athletes to our city".

"From an athlete's perspective, it’s difficult to emphasise enough what an asset it is to compete in front of passionate fans, in a warm and welcoming environment," the four-time Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer added.

"It would be our great honour to bring the Olympic and Paralympic Games back to the people of Los Angeles.

"That’s why our Games Plan includes sport parks in various areas of our city - from the San Fernando Valley to Long Beach - so that an LA Games would truly be a city-wide Games made to be enjoyed by all Angelenos."

Budapest and Paris are also bidding for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Rome "suspended" itself from the process in October after failing to get support from the Italian capital's Mayor Virginia Raggi.

The IOC is due to elect its chosen host city at its Session in Lima on September 13.
