The partnership covers news access and content licences to promote football within the Olympic Movement.

Football has had a presence on the Channel, which represents the most successful element of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Agenda 2020 reform process, since it was launched in August.

This included moments such as Neymar scoring the winning penalty in the Olympic men’s final against Germany at Rio 2016, which earned Brazil their first-ever football gold medal at the Games.

Officials from the Olympic Channel have always remained confident of striking deals with governing bodies such as FIFA, despite the fact that they do not need the coverage provided as much as other sports within the Olympic world.

Today’s announcement comes after six IFs, including the International Cycling Union, penned agreements with the Channel in October.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the International Handball Federation (IHF), the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and the International Surfing Association (ISA) are the only Summer Olympic IFs not to have struck a deal with the Channel.

However, the ISA did agree to let the Channel broadcast coverage of its World Junior Championships in the Azores in September.

The International Biathlon Union is the sole winter sport on the Olympic programme which has not yet entered into a partnership with the Channel.

Along with the 34 Olympic IFs, two IOC-recognised Federations – the International Floorball Federation and the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation – have partnered with the Channel.

The Olympic Channel claim “ongoing discussions” are being held with other IFs, with the deal with FIFA representing a high-profile addition to their current portfolio.

“Football is one the most popular sports on the planet and we are excited to work together with FIFA to amplify the excitement of football at the Olympic Games as well as emphasise the deeply-rooted cultural aspects of ‘the beautiful game’ through the Olympic Channel,” Olympic Channel general manager Mark Parkman said.

The Olympic Channel was launched on August 21 as a key part of the Olympic Movement’s push to engage more young people and spark interest in Olympism all year-round.

IOC members unanimously approved the Channel - which has a fully-funded budget of $490 million (£390 million/€460 million) for its first seven years - at the 127th IOC Session in Monte Carlo.
