Experts are being requested by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to submit their abstracts for the VISTA 2017 conference by January 31.

The deadline will allow for all submissions to be scientific merit and relevance to the Conference topics by members of the IPC Scientific Committee.

Each of the abstracts - a short document intended to explain what their particular conference paper would cover - will be assessed ahead of the event, which is scheduled to take place in Toronto from September 20 to 23.

Organised partnership between the IPC, the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) and the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO), the theme of the 2017 conference is “Opportunities and Challenges in Paralympic Sport Science and Sport Medicine Support”.

Those interested in submitting abstracts to the conference have been invited to send in work in the areas of Socio-economic determinants of Paralympic participation and success, as well as evidence-based classification.

Athlete health and performance, athlete and coach education, integrative approaches to the preparation of Paralympic athletes, and technology, biomechanics and engineering will be other areas submissions will be accepted in.

Registration for VISTA 2017 has already begun, with the event due to take place at the Chelsea Hotel and CSIO.

Bookings before June 15 will allow delegates to take advantage of the early bird registration fee of CAD$400 (£240/$304/€286), representing a 12.5 per cent discount on the listed price.

Students are able to book their places for CAD$200 (£120/$152/€143), with all delegates being able to take advantage of a special discounted accommodation rate at the Chelsea Hotel.

The registration fee includes participation in all conference sessions, as well as an invitation to the Opening Ceremony and an “evening of interactive learning and scientific celebration”, which will be held on September 22.

Lunch and refreshments will also be included, with airport transfers also set to be provided.

Around 300 of the world’s leading sports scientists, sport medicine practitioners, classifiers, coaches, athletes and sport administrators are expected to attend.

Following the Opening Ceremony, the three-day conference will feature keynote speakers, invited symposia and free communications.

The biennial IPC Paralympic Scientific Award will also be presented.

The event is aimed at promoting and advancing the mission, goals, objectives and reputation of the IPC, while providing a platform for the academic world to meet with athletes and professional experts to discuss the latest information, research and expertise related to the Paralympic Movement.
