Sweden remain on course for their ninth World Floorball Championships title as they thrashed Germany to reach the semi-finals at the Arena Riga in the Latvian capital.

The Swedes were in formidable form, as they have been for the majority of the event, as they cruised to an 11-0 victory over a hapless German outfit.

The success for the Scandinavian nation moves them a step closer to stretching their superb run of making the final at every edition of the World Floorball Championships since the inaugural event in 1996.

They have triumphed at eight of the 10 competitions, losing the other two in the final to Finland.

In the other quarter-final to take place today, the Czech Republic eased to a dominant 7-2 win over Estonia.

The Czechs outplayed their opponents for large periods of the encounter but the two sides could not be separated after the first period as it finished level at 2-2.

They managed to seize the initiative in the second stanza, however, as they ran in four unanswered goals to effectively end the last-eight clash as a contest.

The Czechs were frustrated in the early part of the period but their pressure finally told, before they added one more to their tally late on to wrap up a convincing victory.

In the classification matches, hosts Latvia earned their first win of the tournament as they beat Canada 11-1, while Slovakia overcame the United States 7-3.

Switzerland will go up against Norway while two-time winners Finland go up against Denmark in tomorrow's quarter-final matches.
