Shamim Hashmi and Andleeb Sandhu have been elected as the President and Secretary General, respectively, of the Pakistan Karate Federation (PKF) in Lahore this week.

The elective meeting of the General Council of the PKF was held at Olympic House where elections of office bearers and members of the Executive Committee for the next four years between, 2016 to 2020, were held.

Muhammad Jahangir was also elected as Chairman while Khalid Noor will assume the office of treasurer of the PKF.

A number of vice-presidents were also elected at the general council meeting.

They include Nasim Ahmad Qureshi, Ijaz ul Haq and Arif Nawaz Khan.

Farman Ahmed and Mudassar Ahmad Khan were also awarded roles of vice-president.

The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Secretary General Khalid Mehmood and Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) deputy director general Syed Habib Shah also attended the meeting as observers.

The PKF was honoured by the presence of Syed Kamal Shah, the former Interior Secretary of Pakistan, as their newly elected patron.

Babar Iqbal and Muhammad Nadeem were elected as the men's associate secretaries while Ambreena Zarar was appointed as the women's representative in the same role.

A number of members of the Executive Committee were also appointed.

Rashad Mahmood Butt, Abdul Hameed, Nargis Shehzad, Muhammad Hanif, Wahid Bin Hashim and Fayaz Feroze have all joined the board for a four year term.

Success in karate has been limited for Pakistan however Saadi Abbas became his country's first-ever Asian Karate Championships gold medallist five years ago.

Abbas etched his name in history when he beat South Korea's Kim Do-won to win the under-67 kilogram category at the Haixia Sports Centre in Quanzhou, China.
