Norwegian duo Martin Johnsrud Sundby and Heidi Weng claimed overall three-day tour victories in the men’s and women’s events respectively at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Cross-Country World Cup on home snow in Lillehammer today.

Sundby, a double Olympic medallist, topped the standings in the men’s competition as he was second in today’s 15 kilometres pursuit.

The 32-year-old veteran clocked a time of 39min 36.8sec to finish ahead of team-mate Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo on the overall leaderboard by 2.3 seconds.

Finland’s Matti Heikkinen came third as he was a further 2.7 seconds behind, despite emerging triumphant in today’s race in a time of 38:37.8.

Sundby, a world relay champion in 2010, crossed the line 9.2 seconds adrift, comfortably in front of team-mate Paal Goldberg.

The Norwegian star also remains the one to beat in the overall Cross-Country World Cup standings as he now has a total of 350 points.

Sweden’s Calle Halfvarsson, who claimed victory in the 10km free technique yesterday, is second on 316 points.

Klæbo occupies third on 304 points.

In the women’s event, Weng wrapped up her maiden FIS World Cup tour success by finishing third in the women’s pursuit, held over 10km.

The two-time world champion and Olympic 15km skiathlon bronze medallist ended the race in 28:46.1, kaing the overall gold medal by a comfortable 16.1 seconds margin.

Another Norwegian, Ingvild Flugstad Østberg, was second having finished nearly five seconds in front of Weng today, while Finland’s Krista Parmakoski held on for third.

"Today it was not easy at all," said Weng.

"I felt very tired in the first lap.

"I knew Krista was skiing really fast and I was afraid Krista and Ingvild were coming close to me.

"I am happy about my performance during the last two weekends."

Weng has a 90-point advantage in the World Cup standings on 459, with Østberg her closest challenger on 369.

Parmakoski lies in third spot on 357 points.

The Cross-Country World Cup is due to continue on December 10 and 11 with the next stop on the calendar in Davos in Switzerland, with men’s and women’s races scheduled to be held.
