Spectators will be able to watch the 2017 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships for free in Tarvisio, organisers have announced.

Around 140 skiers are expected to attend the Championships, scheduled to take place from January 22 to 31.

Klementina Koren, spokesperson for Tarvisio 2017, urged the public to come and support the event in the Italian town.

"We are organising a great festival of sport here in Tarvisio and we want everyone to come along and enjoy it," Koren said.

"As well as the competitions, we expect there to be a real buzz around the town as everyone gets into the spirit of the event.

"I would encourage people of all ages to come along and see what it’s all about."

It has been claimed that 1,300 schoolchildren and teachers from Italy, Slovenia and Austria will attend the Championships, which is due to see athletes from 30 nations compete.

Organisers believe giving the opportunity to young people to watch the competition will enable them to learn more about para-sport and inspire them to value inclusion, sport and performance.

The schoolchildren are being given sessions ahead of the Championships to give them a greater understanding of Para Alpine skiing.

An Opening Ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 22 in Tarvisio’s town square, with competing teams set to parade through the streets.

Downhill competition will be the first to be contested at the Championships, with action due to take place on January 25.

Super-G action will be held the following day, before super combined competition is held on January 28.

The Championships will conclude with giant slalom and slalom events taking place on January 30 and 31 respectively.
