Great Britain Taekwondo has committed to a four-year community programme in London and Manchester after both cities were awarded major World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) events.

It was revealed earlier this month that Manchester will play host to the 2019 World Championships, while also staging a leg of the 2018 WTF World Taekwondo Grand-Prix Series.

The Copper Box Arena in London, which was used for Olympic competitions in 2012, will be a venue for the 2017 Grand Prix Series.

Britain is hoping to capitalise on the events and will stage its community drive to "capitalise on the increased profile of the sport and inspire more young people to take part".

The country won three medals at the Rio 2016 Olympics in August, including gold for Jade Jones who defended her women's 57 kilogram title.

Lutalo Muhammad won men's 80kg silver with Bianca Walkden bagging bronze in the women's over 67kg.

Muhammad has already announced that he will spend time at 12 schools in his home London Borough of Walthamstow.

"Although I train full-time in Manchester now, I’m still a local boy from Walthamstow and being able to spend time with young people who are growing up in the same area as I did is really important to me," he said.

"Taekwondo has opened so many doors to me, and if I can encourage even one young person here to take up a sport, or dedicate time to improving themselves and aiming high in life, then that’s so important to me."
