South Korea have pledged to offer further support to Cambodia as they seek to develop emerging taekwondo talent.

The country have previously benefited from South Korean support, with several of their athletes training in the nation prior to previous major events.

Thong Khon, President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, reportedly travelled to meet the President of the Kukkiwon, Oh Hyun-deuk.

Khon aimed to get the support of the Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters, to help more Cambodian athletes train in South Korea.

He also sought help from South Korea in developing coaches.

According to the Phnom Penh Post, Oh agreed to offer support to Cambodian athletes by helping with scholarships and sending a team of coaches to the nation.

Cambodia were represented in taekwondo at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games by Sorn Seavmey, with the 22-year-old competing in the women’s over-67 kilogram event.

She has emerged as the country’s leading taekwondo athlete, with Seavmey having the honour of representing her country as the flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony.

She lost her opening round bout to The Netherlands' Reshmie Oogink.

Seavmey previously earned under-73 kg gold at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, having successfully claimed the title at the South East Asian Games the year before.
