A sepaktakraw coaching course has been held by the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) at their headquarters in Phnom Penh.

The level one coaching course featured 25 participants, who had a range of experience in the sport.

Meas Sarin, Cambodia’s Under Secretary of State for the Ministry of Education, presided over the course which was sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and the International Sepaktakraw Federation.

"A total of 25 participants attended the course, including federation members and sports teachers and coaches from clubs and school," said Sarin, who is also the President of the Cambodia Sepaktakraw Federation.

"This is the first time that the Cambodia Sepaktakraw Federation has held such a high-level course."

Thailand’s Poonsak Permsap was among the lecturers at the event and detailed his experience of coaching in both South Korea and India.

The sport is similar to volleyball, but only allows players to use their feet, knees, chest and head to touch the ball.

Sepaktakraw is popular is Southeast Asia, reflected by its inclusion at recent Asian Games and the Southeast Asian Games.

The sport was also contested at the 2016 Asian Beach Games in Vietnam, where Thailand earned four of the six gold medals on offer.

Myanmar and Vietnam would also earn a gold medal.
