Hong Kong has been awarded the 2017 Boccia International Sports Federation (BISFed) General Assembly, it was announced today.
The gathering of the BISFed will be hosted by the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled.
It is set to be held on May 29, following the conclusion of the BISFed 2017 Asia and Oceania Regional Championships in the country.
Further details, such as an exact venue for the General Assembly, are due to be confirmed by the sport’s worldwide governing body in January.
Next year is set to be a busy one for the sport as a number of major international competitions are due to be staged.
The BISFed has asked its members to submit expression of interest forms for the events by the deadline of December 16 in order to "ensure slots are fairly and evenly distributed".
The provisional calendar, which remains subject to confirmation, is due to begin with a European Regional Open tournament in the Spanish town of Saint Cugat from April 13 to 20.
The Asia and Oceania Regional Championships in Hong Kong is one of the standout competitions on the schedule and is followed by the European Regional Championships in Póvoa de Varzim in Portugal from June 17 to 24.
The Americas Regional Championships are then set to come to the fore in the Colombian city of Cali, with the event due to run from August 14 to 21.
The year concludes with Americas Regional Open in Mar del Plata in November or December as a date has not yet been confirmed by the BISFed.
The BISFed also recently published their draft list of competition rules.
The world governing body sought feedback on potential amendments following the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in September.
Proposals were made by members from across the world, with the BISFed Rules Committee meeting earlier this month to discuss changes.
