Planica in Slovenia is to bid for the International Ski Federation (FIS) Nordic Ski World Championships for a fourth time after confirming entry for the 2023 race.

Members of the Executive Board of the Ski Association of Slovenia (SZS) have approved another candidacy after a trio of failed attempts.

The first bid was for the 2017 edition, which will be held in Lahti in Finland next year, with Planica again unsuccessful in the 2019 race which was won by Seefeld in Austria.

In September, Oberstdorf in Germany was awarded the rights for the 2021 Championships with 11 votes, with Trondheim in Norway getting four and Planica two.

Organisers in Slovenia are undeterred by their failures, however, and will press on again.

"We have the knowledge and the experience to organise this important international event," said SZS President Enzo Smrekar.

"The rich sports history and results of the Slovenian teams give us an obligation to continue pursuing our goal."

The Nordic Center Planica, where competition would take place, has already hosted FIS World Cup and Continental Cup competitions in all three disciplines that features at the Worlds - cross-country skiing, Nordic combined and ski jumping.

Slovenia currently boasts the world's best male ski jumper, with Peter Prevc dominating the 2015-16 FIS World Cup season.

The FIS will elect a host for 2023 at its Congress in 2018.
