Canada's Patrick Chan claimed his second International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating title of the season as he clinched men's gold at the Audi Cup of China in Beijing.

The 25-year-old double Olympic silver medallist, who won the Skate Canada International earlier this season, was third after yesterday's short programme at the Capital Gymnasium in the Chinese capital.

He was in fine form in today's free skate, however, reeling off a quadruple-triple toe, a quadruple toe, two triple Axels and three more triples.

Chan did fall on a quadruple Salchow but it did not matter as the three-time world champion tallied a combined 279.72 points for gold in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games host city.

His score of 196.31 points for the free skate was a season's best with his victory meaning he has qualified for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Grand Final in Marseille, due to take place between December 8 and 11.

"The programme felt very methodical, I didn’t give it more energy that it needed," said Chan.

"I really just told myself to relax and not rush, just to enjoy every element on its own and I think it worked.

"Even with the fall on the quad Salchow I didn’t panic.

"I got up and started doing the programme as I do it at home, forget about the mistake and just move on."

Chan's success means that China's overnight leader Boyang Jin had to settle for the silver medal on home ice at the Capital Gymnasium, as he scored 278.54 points.

Sergei Voronov of Russia climbed from fourth to third, scoring 243.76 points, while Israel's Daniel Samohim produced an error-strewn display and plummeted from second to eighth with a finishing total of 213.51.

In the women's competition, Russian Elena Radionova claimed gold after overtaking Canada's overnight leader Kaetlyn Osmond.

Radionova nailed six triple jumps including a triple Lutz-single loop-triple Salchow, and finished on 205.90 points for a fourth Grand Prix title of her career.

"My performance was not flawless today, but it was the best performance of the season, as for the jumps as well as for the skating overall," said the 17-year-old.

Osmond hung on for the silver medal, scoring 196.00, with Russia’s Elizaveta Tuktamysheva moving up from fourth to clinch bronze with 192.57.

There was home gold medal to celebrate in the pairs competition as Xiaoyu Yu and Hao Zhang held on to their overnight lead to triumph with 203.76 points.

It was a Chinese 1-2 as Cheng Peng and Yang Jin rose from third to second, scoring 197.96 points.

Canadians Liubov Ilyushechkina and Dylan Moscovitch went in the other direction, finishing third with 191.54.

The Chinese winners completed a big triple twist, a double Axel, a throw triple loop and Salchow in their routine, as well as level-four lifts, spins and a death spiral.

In the ice dance, American brother and sister combination Maia and Alex Shibutani rose from second to win with a score of 185.13 points.

They leap-frogged Canadians Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, who dropped to silver medal position on 181.54 points.

Russians Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin stayed in bronze medal position and finished on 185.13 points.

The last leg of the Grand Prix season before the Final is due to be the NHK Trophy in Sapporo in Japan, with action beginning on Thursday (November 25).
