London 2012 Olympic vault bronze medallist Igor Radivilov of Ukraine claimed top spot on his preferred apparatus during the qualification round at the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Individual Apparatus World Cup in Cottbus in Germany.

Radivilov, the 2014 World Championships vault silver medallist, scored 15.183 to finish in front of Japan’s Yusuke Saito, who managed 14.666 at the Lausitz Arena Cottbus.

Spain’s Adria Vera Mora’s total of 14.549 was enough for third place on the standings.

Saito was also forced to settle for second spot in the horizontal bar event as his score of 14.900 was 0.100 less than home favourite Andreas Bretschneider, who was 20th in the individual all-around competition at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Christopher Jursch, also of Germany, scored 14.566 to take third.

Three-time Asian Games gold medallist Yuya Kamoto of Japan demonstrated his ability on the parallel bars as his routine was rewarded with an impressive 15.133 points.

His effort saw him finish comfortably ahead of the rest of the field, with Germany’s Lukas Dauser second on 14.466.

Hungary's Zsófia Kovács, the top performer on the uneven bars yesterday, ousted compatriot Dorina Boeczoego to clinch the number one ranking in the balance beam as she recorded 14.200 points.

Carina Kroell maintained the successful performances of German gymnasts on home soil as she ended the day third on 13.200.

Leah Griesser of Germany led the way on the floor as her display yielded 13.600 points from the watching judges.

Kroell was second and Kovács third.

The opening FIG Individual Apparatus World Cup of the season continues with the first set of finals tomorrow.
