England's Raven Chapman and Chantelle Cameron both secured their places in the next round of the 57 kilogram and 64kg events respectively today at the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) European Women’s Boxing Championships at the Sofia Sports Hall in Bulgaria.

Cameron, who was GB Boxing’s main lightweight contender for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games before she failed to qualify at the 2016 International Boxing Association (AIBA) Women’s World Championships, overcame Denmark's Ditte Frostholm on a split decision.

Chapman also advanced courtesy of another split decision win against Jovana Krstic of Serbia.

Two judges declared Chapman the victor while the other saw the bout as level.

Elsewhere, former double world champion Gülsüm Tatar of Turkey also safely progressed.

Tatar won gold at both the 2008 and 2010 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships.

In Ningbo in China in 2008 she won the 63kg category before doubling her tally two years later in Bridgetown in Barbados where she was victorious in the 64kg event.

Today in Sofia she successfully navigated her way through to the next round as she overcame Shahla Alaveridyeva of Azerbaijan by unanimous decision in the 64kg competition.

Joining her in the next round is Kinga Siwa of Poland who was awarded a comprehensive judges' decision victory over Ukraine's Anna Lysenko.

There were also 64kg victories for Russian duo Aleksandra Ordina and Natalya Samokhina.

Ordina overcame Ireland's Kellie Anne Harrington by a split decision before her compatriot, Samokhina, also progressed after she won in more convincing fashion.

The Russian claimed a unanimous decision win over Claudia Nechita of Romania.

The competition is set to continue in Sofia tomorrow, with another 20 bouts scheduled to take place across two action-packed sessions.
