The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) held discussions with representatives of the sport’s Member National Associations (MNAs) at an all-day seminar at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel in Burnaby in Canada.

During the workshop, held before the WTF World Junior Championships which begin in Burnaby on Wednesday (November 15), those in attendance discussed a whole plethora of topics.

The morning programme covered general administrative matters between the WTF and the MNAs, and also included an introduction to WTF events and the bidding and selection processes for host venues.

Membership applications and the relevant procedures for accessing WTF development funds were also looked at.

After a short break in the mid-afternoon, the attendees were then briefed on matters surrounding anti-doping and the creation of national-level Para-taekwondo programmes.

Later on in the afternoon, the ongoing efforts of the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation were also discussed as well as the WTF Taekwondo Partnership Programme.

"This is the first time to hold the WTF MNA Workshop, but it will not be the last," said WTF President Chungwon Choue.

"We have a lot of information to deliver to you, but we also look forward to your feedback.

"We want this event to be a mutually beneficial meeting of minds."

The event will now be held every two years alongside the World Taekwondo Junior Championships.

"It was a very useful workshop for us," added Shima Babapour, the director of international affairs at the Iran Taekwondo Federation.

"I am happy to know about the new scholarship programme for athletes, new bid and selection process, and the supporting for refugees through the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation as well."

The workshop follows a week-long coach seminar and forum, organised by the WTF, during which 30 of the world’s top taekwondo coaches were invited to South Korean capital Seoul to discuss the future of the sport.
