The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has signed a deal which sees energy giant Total become an official sponsor of the Dubai World Superseries Finals until the end of next year.

Total, as the official energy partner, is now "committed to providing strong support in all activities and promotion for the Finals".

This year's tournament and the 2017 edition are covered by the link-up.

The two organisations first announced a partnership last year, which will run until 2018.

This installed Total as the title sponsors for major BWF events such as the World Championships, the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals and the Sudirman Cup.

The company is also a partner of Superseries tournaments in China, India, Malaysia and Indonesia, with the new deal adding the season-ending competition in Dubai to the list.

"I am pleased, on behalf of the BWF, to welcome Total as a partner for the Dubai World Superseries Finals," said BWF President Poul-Erik Høyer.

"As the season finale of the MetLife BWF World Superseries, this prestigious tournament brings together badminton’s best performers and some of our most celebrated stars.

"In this Olympic year, we are also guaranteed to witness the Rio 2016 champions among those vying for a share of the lucrative jackpot.

"We are confident that Total will see the value of partnering with us on this event and BWF thanks Total for its continued commitment to badminton."

The Superseries finals, held in Dubai since 2014, only invites the top eight players in the men's and women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

Competitors battle to seal their place in the United Arab Emirates throughout the course of the season.

"We are excited in extending our partnership with BWF outside Asia and look forward to ending the badminton season finale on a high note," said Total's Stephane Lagrue.
