The Colombian Olympic Committee (COC) has signed an agreement with a leading university which will see a sports law course offered to students.

The partnership with the Sergio Arboleda University in capital city Bogota means the Masters course will begin to run from the second half of next year.

Lleida University in Spain is also involved in the project which has the aim of boosting good governance.

It is also part of a drive to introduce more sports lawyers into the Colombian system.

COC President Baltazar Medina was on hand to announce the news following a meeting at the University.

Sergio Arboldea were represented by the institution's rector Rodrigo Noguera, while the dean of the faculty of law, Ernesto Lucena, was also present.

The first students to take up the course will also benefit from the support of Coldeportes, the Government's department for sport in the South American country.

The news comes with the COC still celebrating their most successful-ever Olympic Games at Rio de Janeiro in August.

The country won three gold medals in a total haul of eight, including the men's 62 kilogram weightlifting title for Óscar Figueroa.

Caterine Ibargüen won the women's triple jump gold and Mariana Pajón was crowned as the women's BMX champion.

Colombia's best performance prior to Rio 2016 was at London 2012 where they also won eight medals - but only one was a gold.
