Thailand's Kantaphon Wangcharoe eased into the third round of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Junior Championship with yet another convincing victory in Bilbao today.

After dispatching Scotland’s Matthew Grimley in straight games yesterday, the top seed made light work of Mexico's Luis Arman Montoya Na 21-9, 21-10.

Progression was not quite as straight forward for Wangcharoe's main rival however as Malaysia's Zii Jia Lee was forced to come from a game down to beat Mithun Manjunath of India in a thriller lasting 54 minutes.

Manjunath shocked the crowd in Spain by narrowly taking the first game 23-21.

Many inside the Bilbao Arena expected Lee to instantly overturn the deficit however his opponent provided a tough challenge.

The Malaysian manged to go on to win the second game 21-18 before his class and experience prevailed as he claimed the third and decisive game 21-18 as well.

Elsewhere in the men's singles draw, Frenchman Toma Junio Popov, seeded seventh, brushed aside Bulgaria's Dimitar Yanakiev 21-14, 21-11.

In arguably the shock of the day in the women's singles competition, India's Shikha Gautam ousted Australian tenth seed Joy Lai 21-19, 18-21, 21-15.

The favourite in the women's singles, Jin Wei Goh of Malaysia, once again cruised into the next round.

Goh took just 17 minutes to defeat Ella Soderstrom of Sweden 21-18, 21-14.

China's Chen Yufei also advanced in convincing fashion as the tournament's second seed coasted past Nur Insyir Khan of Singapore, 21-10, 21-4.

There were also a host of doubles matches played today with a shock in the mixed event.

Poland's fifth seeds, Pawel Smilowski and Magdalena Swierczyns, were eliminated by an unseeded pair in the form of Kyung Hoon Park and Hye Jeong Kim of South Korea.

The underdogs overcame their opponents in straight games, advancing courtesy of a 21-14, 21-17 success.

Elsewhere in the mixed doubles event China's He Jiting and partner Du Yue successfully secured their place in the next round.

He and Du, the top seeds in the competition, coasted past New Zealand's Edward Lau and Tamara Otene 21-7, 21-14 in a mere 19 minute encounter.

Action is set to continue in Bilbao tomorrow with the tournament coming to a close on Sunday (November 13) with finals in all competitions.
