The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) will assemble in Burnaby in Canada next week as the town plays host to a Council meeting and the WTF General Assembly before the 2016 World Taekwondo Junior Championships.

The WTF Council meeting is due to take place on November 14 with decisions on the hosts of various WTF events between 2017 and 2021 high on the list of priorities.

The world governing body revealed they have received applications from "iconic cities all around the world" as part of the WTF's rejuvenated bidding process, which has seen them put a greater emphasis on consultation and flexibility.

Events to be given locations include the World Taekwondo Grand-Prix Series and Final, World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships and World Taekwondo Cadet Championships.

The Federation’s flagship event, the 2019 World Taekwondo Championships, is also being contested between Manchester in the United Kingdom and Houston in the United States.

On November 15, the WTF General Assembly are scheduled tol discuss and approve the amendments to the WTF competition rules, which are focused on ensuring the sport is as "exciting and dynamic" as possible while maintaining its technical traditions.

The General Assembly will receive a progress report on the preparations for the 2017 WTF World Taekwondo Championships in Muju in South Korea.

Following the conclusion of both meetings, the WTF World Taekwondo Junior Championships are then due to take place at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre between November 16 and 20.

A total of 846 young athletes from 102 countries are expected to compete.

The Opening and Closing ceremonies of the Championships, as well as the semi-finals and finals, will be live streamed on the WTF website and WTF YouTube Channel.

"We have a very busy but exciting week ahead in Burnaby," said WTF President Chungwon Choue.

"We have received many excellent applications from world-class cities around the world and I have no doubt the cities that are chosen by the Council will host fantastic events between 2017 and 2021.

"I look forward to sharing the Council’s selection with the General Assembly and bringing together our 206 Member National Associations to discuss how we can move taekwondo forward in the years ahead.

"The WTF World Taekwondo Junior Championships, with the participation of more than 102 countries, shows just how bright taekwondo’s future is."

On November 13, the WTF are set to host the Member National Association Leadership Workshop for the first time.

The workshop will promote enhanced communication between the WTF and members, and provide guidance on the WTF’s business plan.
