Afrah Mohammad has claimed the gold medal in the women's skeet final at the sixth Asian Shotgun Championships at the Al Forsan International Sports Resort in Abu Dhabi today.

Mohammad of Kuwait produced a score of 69 to narrowly claim the gold medal ahead of the her nearest rivals.

Kuwaitis are competing as independent athletes at the Championships given that their country is currently suspended from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) due to Government interference. 

Israpa Imprsertsuk of Thailand shot 68 throughout the women's skeet competition as did Olga Panarina of Kazakhstan taking the competition for the silver medal to a shoot-off.

The Thai shooter managed to get the better of her rival forcing Panarina to settle for bronze.

The opening rounds of the men's skeet competition also took place today.

Another Kuwaiti, Saud Habib, leads the competition overnight by one point on 74 after three rounds of shooting.

He represented Kuwait at the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000 and Rio 2016, and also won a bronze medal in men's skeet shooting at the 2000 ISSF World Cup.

Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Sheeraz Sheikh, both of India, shot identical scores of 73 to trail Habib.

Mairaj had rounds of 25, 24 and 24 while Sheeraz shot a sequence of 25, 25 and 23. 

The men's skeet event final is scheduled for tomorrow, which brings the competition to a close.
