Sun Feixiang made it 2-0 with a 21-15, 21-13 win over Jun Hao Leong in the men’s singles and victory was sealed when Chen Yufei overcame Jin Wei Goh 22-20, 14-21, 21-8 in the women's singles.

"I wasn’t worried - I believe in myself," said 18-year-old Chen.

"We already had two points and I was confident that I would win even though she has beaten me before.

"I didn’t feel pressured or worried but I was really happy when we won."

Malaysia came from behind against Thailand to win their semi-final 3-1 yesterday, but they fell short at the last hurdle.

"My players put up a good show from the start of this tournament, but I think last night they played better,"said Dato Syed Abu Bakar Abdullah, Malaysia's team manager.

"We were hoping that Goh Jin Wei would win and that we would have a chance in the men’s and women’s doubles.

"Playing China is different from playing Thailand - the standard is higher.

"They were better than us and they deserve to be champions."

Indonesia beat Chinese Taipei 3-1 in the fifth-place play-off, while Denmark defeated India 3-2 in the battle for seventh spot.

With the team event now complete, attention turns to the six-day individual competition which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday (November 8).
