China celebrated double gold in singles competitions at the Bitburger Open in the German city of Saarbrücken.

Shi Yuqi earned the men’s singles title at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Grand Prix Gold event, after winning a highly competitive match with Sourabh Varma of India.

The fourth seed was tested strongly in the first game by Varma, but eventually took the opener 21-19.

Varma would continue to play impressively as he looked to add to his recent success at the Chinese Taipei Masters.

He would eventually fall to a straight games 21-19, 22-20 loss, despite the impressive effort of the unseeded player.

He Bingjiao enjoyed a more straightforward final in the women’s singles event, with the top seed cruising past Nitchaon Jindapol.

The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games gold medallist sealed a straight games 21-11, 21-18 win against her Thai opponent.

It was a similar story for China in the women’s doubles competition, with Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan easing to victory.

The duo overcame Thailand’s Jongkolpha Kititharak and Rawinda Prajongjai 21-12, 21-19.

Unseeded Malaysian duo Ee Yi Teo and Yew Sin Ong would disappoint the host nation in the men’s doubles final.

They defeated Johannes Schoettler and Michael Fuchs 21-16, 21-18.

Chris and Gabby Adcock of England were unable to live up to their status as top seeds in the mixed doubles event.

The husband and wife pair were beaten by Zheng Siwei and Chen Qingchen by a 21-16, 23-21 score, which saw China earn their fourth win in the five events in Germany.
