Jiří Kejval has been re-elected as the President of the Czech Olympic Committee (COC) at their Congress.

Held at the Congress Centre of the Czech National Bank in Prague, the meeting saw Keyval run unopposed for the post.

He was given a total of 78 votes out of the 80 cast, leaving him free to lead the organisation for the next four years.

"If I had to pinpoint one thing that was most successful in the past four years, then it is definitely a change in the perception of the Czech sport companies," said Kejval following his re-election.

"The public began to perceive that we are the people who breathe the sport.

"We want to be like everywhere in the West, mainly multinational companies involved in the promotion of civil society in the place where it operates.

"It is not just a sport but also culture and charity."

The 48-year-old entrepreneur is a former international rower selected to compete for the Czech Republic at the 1992 Olympics at Barcelona but who was unable to compete after his partner fell ill.

Kejval is the managing director of Techo, a company he founded and which sells office furniture and equipment.

Kejval highlighted three key priorities for the next four years, with the first aimed at ensuring athletes have the best possible programmes to ensure they can compete with world leading nations.

The introduction of the institute of corporate social responsibility will be aimed at improving the funding of sport in the country.

Kejval also expressed the importance of using digital media to communication and encourage young people to participate in sport.

Czech Volleyball Federation head Zdenek Haník was elected as a COC vice-president, along with the Czech Ski Association’s Roman Kumpošt and Football Association chief Miroslav Pelta.

Libor Varhaník and Filip Šuman, from the country’s athletics and floorball federations, are also vice-presidents.

Sailing’s Karel Bauer, taekwondo’s Peter Hulinský, basketball’s Michal Ježdík and hockey’s Tomáš Král are all members of the Executive Committee.

They are joined by canoeing’s Jaroslav Pollert, swimming’s Petr Ryška, gymnastics’ Roman Slavík, table tennis’ Zbyněk Špaček and Marián Štětina from cycling.

After the elections, which will see them serve until 2020, the Executive Committee held their first meeting.
