Brazil’s BC3 boccia team has won the International Paralympic Committee's (IPC) Allianz award for the Best Team of the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The team, comprising of Evelyn de Oliveira, Antonio Leme and Evani Soares da Silva, defeated the favourites and world number one South Korean team last month on home soil to win the gold medal.

Brazil had lost to the Koreans in the group stage but battled back when it mattered to win the final 5-2.

The Brazilians received 55 per cent of the public vote.

Australia's wheelchair rugby side, who beat the United States to the gold medal at Rio 2016 after a thrilling win in overtime, finished second.

The American sitting volleyball team that defeated China 3-0 to take the gold medal came third.

Other nominees included Brazil’s 5-a-side football team, who won a fourth consecutive Paralympic gold medal and the Turkish women’s goalball squad, who went undefeated throughout their tournament as they claimed victory.

The Chinese women’s 4x100 metres relay T11-13 team that won gold medals were also nominated.

The IPC normally hands out just one award each month but, due to the Paralympics, has opted to hand out male, female and team prizes this time around.

Iranian powerlifter Siamand Rahman has already been crowned as the winner of the men's prize, with his compatriot Sareh Javanmardidomani, a shooter, named as the women's recipient.
