The official song of this year's men's World Floorball Championships has been launched less than two months away from the event in Riga.

Performed by Madara Gregere, the song is called "Champion" and will be played at the event in the Latvian capital between December 3 and 11.

Willie Deane, an American basketball player who is on the books of the Ventspils club in Latvia, wrote the lyrics while Gregere, a Latvian singer, and guitarist Janis Cubars composed the music.

"It was a great responsibility to create a song for a huge international event like this and I really enjoyed it," said Gregere.

"I'm looking forward to December when I will perform the song for all participants, spectators and guests at the World Floorball Championships opening ceremony in Arena Riga."

Sixteen countries will contest the World Championships in all, with Riga hosting matches at both Arena Riga and the Olympic Sports Centre in the city.

Hosts Latvia will play with defending champions Sweden in Group B, as well as Norway and the Czech Republic.

Group A consists of Switzerland, Finland, Germany and Estonia with Denmark, Slovakia, Poland and Australia colliding in Group C.

Canada, United States, Singapore and Thailand will play in Group D.

Ilvis Petersons, the President of the Latvian Floorball Union, said: "I hope that in future this composition will be one of the most played and familiar songs in the floorball world.

"Thanks to authors - Willie, Madara and Janis - for responsiveness and successful cooperation in the creative process."
