Unseeded home player Hsueh Hsuan Yi shocked Japan's Kanta Tsuneyama by eliminating the third seed on day three of action at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Chinese Taipei Masters at the Hsing Chuang Gymnasium in Taipei. 

Hsueh, ranked 192 in the world, got the better of Tsuneyama after a five game thriller lasting 49 minutes. 

Cheered on by a raucous home crowd, Hsueh took the first game 11-8 before being pegged back by Tsuneyama in the second 11-13.

The home favourite then took the lead again, winning the third game 11-5.

Once again, however, Hsueh was unable to capitalise and lost the fourth 8-11 before taking the fifth and decisive game 11-4.

Elsewhere in the men's singles action, top seed Hsu Jen Hao of Chinese Taipei eased into round four with a comfortable straight games win over compatriot Teng Shih Hua, 11-9, 11-9, 11-6.

Lin Yu Hsien then added further delight for the hosts as he overcame Thailand's Suppanyu Avihingsan 9-11, 11-8, 15-13, 11-2.

In the women's competition number two seed Jing Yi Tee of Malaysia secured her place in round three with a comprehensive 11-9, 15-14, 11-3 win over Singapore's Jia Min Yeo.

Japan's Ayumi Mine also eased through as she thrashed Chien Hui Yu of Chinese Taipei 11-3, 11-6, 11-8.

All of the top seeds in the three doubles competitions safely navigated their way through to round three of their respective competitions.

In an all Chinese Taipei affair, Cheng Hung Ling and his partner Chi-Lin Wang defeated compatriots Lu Ching Yao and Shang Kai Lin 11-7, 7-11, 11-6, 11-4 in the men's doubles.

In the women's doubles event, Japan's Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota easily beat the unseeded pair of Yeung Nga Ting and Ng Tsz Yau of Hong Kong 11-7, 11-3, 11-7.

In the mixed doubles competition, Chinese Taipei's Hung Ying Yuan and Pei Shan Hsieh were eliminated by top seeds Yong Kai Terry Hee and Wei Han Tan of Singapore.

Hee and Tan started strongly winning the first two games 11-6 and 11-5.

Hung and Hsieh managed to take the fourth 4-11 but their opponents were too strong in the fourth and decisive set with Hee and Tan winning it 11-7.
