The selection was made by head coach Ken Babey following a five-day selection camp at the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary.

A total of 29 players attended the camp at the centre, which is located on WinSport's Canada Olympic Park.

Teenagers James Dunn and Zach Savage, who were both born in 2000, were among those to earn a place in the squad.

With defenders Rob Armstrong, Tyrone Henry and Kevin Sorley all in their early twenties, as well as forwards, Dominic Cozzolino, Ben Delaney and Tyler McGregor, the selection is viewed as being based firmly on youth.

"Selection camp is always an intense time for players and staff - we have a very tight schedule, and a short window to work with, but I was very impressed with how everyone handled the pressure," Babey said.

"To a tee, each and every one of the players who arrived here last Sunday carried themselves with the poise and professionalism that I expect from a Team Canada player, and that provides us, as a coaching and management staff, with a great sense of pride to witness.

"In the end, all of them will take away some level of growth and development from the experience.

"And for the 19 who were selected to represent their country as part of Canada's National Sledge Team, I want them to take a few days to enjoy this hard-won accomplishment before we resume our preparation for this season’s events."

Brad Bowden, Billy Bridges and Greg Westlake, who have been key members of the Canadian team which won Paralympic gold at Turin 2006, will be expected to add key experience to aid the more youthful members of the team.

The latter is due to retain his role as the team captain, while McGregor will be a full-time alternate captain.

The first test for the squad will be the 2016 World Sledge Hockey Challenge, which is scheduled to take place from December 4 to 10 on home ice in Charlottetown.

In the build-up to the four-team tournament, the Canadian team will hold a training camp from November 10 to 16.

The Four Nations Cup is also expected to be contested by the Canadian team in Italy, with the tournament due to be held in February.
